How to Find the Perfect Job – Expert Job Hunting Advice

What’s perfect for you may not be perfect for someone else.

When searching for a new career, a good starting place is to think about what gets you out of bed every morning. List down what you are passionate about both in, and outside of work. There’s no better feeling than getting paid to do something you love. Whether it’s saving the environment, creating the latest computer program or just simply making people smile – there’s a perfect job out there for everyone.


Write a wish list

Now you’ve identified what gets you ticking, it’s time to think about what it is you want from a job. Think back to your previous jobs, what did you like and dislike about them? What got you motivated and more importantly what made you demotivated. Are you seeking a challenge? Part time hours? An employee bonus scheme? Whatever it is, it’s important not to forget when reading job descriptions.

Write a wish list of the top 10-15 elements your dream job has. When sifting through job descriptions, don’t settle for anything that meets less than half of the points on your list.


When looking at jobs, don’t be swayed by the salary.

Think about what means more to you, is it money or is it happiness? If you’re reading this article my guess is happiness. Bear in mind that the happier you are in your job, the better your output will be, which will increase your chance of getting that pay rise.


Think beyond the title.

When you first meet your recruitment agent, don’t limit yourself to just one job title. Instead, come in with a list of key elements you are looking for and allow us to make creative suggestions based on them.

Sure you could use all this information to fill out online career tests and online personality tests which will spit out generic answers. Or, you could speak to a recruitment advisor who suggest avenues you might never have thought of.
